The purpose of the Quiz Program is to assist all officials learn the many rules and situations that may be presented to them during the course of the season and throughout their officiating career.
Hockey Eastern Ontario requires that all new officials successfully complete 12 consecutive quizzes (3 years x 4 quizzes). These quizzes are 20 to 25 multiple choice questions. Officials may use their rulebook to take the exam and they have a month to complete each quiz once released.An official is allowed to pair up with another official or officials and may complete the quiz together. Every official must submit their own quiz for grading. Once an official has completed the quiz they are no longer allowed to review or change their answers. Once an official has completed 12 quizzes over the three year period, they are no longer required to participate in the Quiz Program. However, all officials are encouraged to take the quizzes on an ongoing basis. Some Districts may require that all officials participate in the quiz program regardless of level and length of time officiating.
Quizzes are available for completion at the beginning of October, November, December and January and must be completed and submitted before the last day of that month (October 31, November 30, December 31 and January 31).
The expectation is for each official to achieve a passing grade of 80%.
Each district may have a Director of Development or Quiz Program to assist any official with issues or concerns they may have. The RIC will be available to help as well. Please familiarize yourself with your district contacts. The district contact will work with the Branch Director of Development should any issues or concerns arise.
Participation in the quiz program is mandatory and monitored. Each district has their own policy as it relates to an official's participation in the Quiz Program. Each official is encouraged to speak with their Director of Development or RIC to familiarize yourself with the specific policies within your district.
